Thanks man, I'm excited to see it myself, just not excited to see $1000 fly from my pocket lol
Yeah, same. Which is why I'm pulling sensors off of some of my drones and making my own digital display.. They never let me down in hundreds of hours of drone flying, I figure they won't let me down now. Actual aircraft gauges cost a lot!
While I waited for More plywood to come in I put together a mini kit to make building the wings a little faster. All of the trailing edge gussets for both wings are cut out and sanded. All of the corner blocks that reinforce the drag braces are cut out. Most of the rs stock for both wings has been cut to size on my table saw and labeled. Now that I got material again, I am finishing up the last wing spar then I can drill the spars for the aluminum fittings. I had to order 10 feet of 2024 t4 bar stock to build all of the spar pins.
The stars and planets have realigned and by golly , I think I will have a flying himax by spring of 2019! Under budget and under the time, let's celebrate by listening.to top 80 broken wings.
There is no way on gods green earth your gonna drill your wing spars out with a drill press.
I wouldn't know why that can't be done. I drilled my spars for the attach fittings on a drill press. Granted, though, a drill alignment fixture is a nice tool to have.
Anything can be done if a person wants to make building a airplane the most insane complex procedure that requires an IQ of 130 to manipulate power tools in weird ways to get the job done. Lol! Humans don't make jobs more complicated than they need to be. Sorry for the rant. Do you have any photos of your build? Just asking because we all benifit if we share our progress.

What is/was your climb rate with 277? That looks sharp btw , to the average person its not a model airplane lol Its the BMW of the sky!
The only person who's flown it is an experienced pilot friend of mine, and I'm pleased to say he was happy to fly it not just once, but also a second time. I have not proven myself to have any great, repeatable skill at landing a Kitfox II that he and I own in a partnership. To date, my experience, as in the photo, has been limited to tail-up taxi. I have taxied tail-up over 1/2 the length of the 3,000' runway where the plane is kept, but common sense has kept me from pushing the throttle all the way forward and pulling back on the stick. Although he didn't mention a particular climb rate my 170# "test pilot" friend, but has said on many occasions that he was pleased at the plane's overall performance. If I can ever land the Kitfox II repeatedly perhaps I'll solo in my MiniMAX.
BTW....thanks for the compliment on the plane. I enjoy building things and knowing that I built a plane that has flown, and flies nicely I'm told, satisfies 99% of my goal.
Jeffro, My Rotax 277 powered "fat" Max 103 ultralight has a rate of climb around 250 ft. per min. Some days it's a little better, and some days it's a little worse!

My 277 powered.skypup had the ability to land where most planes couldn't go, my lack of streamling and no windshield.really.set me back.so I couldnt go fast. One of my most memorable moments is landing on a 1000ft runway surrounded by field corn in a forest . I didn't think I would make it off the ground without hitting the trees. Good times.
Team shipped my tail wheel! I am so excited! I am gonna buy my engine from team to support them. I have been looking for a used 277 since I started my build but this eBay user kept trying to sell me crapola! I am sticking with team for everthing
Gyrojeffro, I applaud you for your loyalty to TEAM, but I would like to suggest you at least check with Steve Beatty at Airscrew Performance in Arizona. 623-842-3902. When TEAM was here in Tennessee they got their Rotax engines from Steve. I got a low time engine from him last year, and couldn't have been more pleased.
Thanks greg, Steve wants the same price.I put a bathroom scale under the fuse while leveling everything and got 90 pounds. Assuming the tail.weighs 15 pounds, the wings weigh 60 lbs total. 277 weighs 69 pounds complete 235 minus paint and polyurethane
Tail wheel drilled and bolted to fuse. fuselage weighs 93 lbs as it sits according to a cheap chinese bathroom scale. I can shave a ounce or two with the angle grinder.
Looking good! I look forward to seeing more about the tail wheel, it appears mine is slightly messed up, but its all hidden behind fabric, so I did not get a clear look on how it works.
Aww thanks, most of the folks I grew up with had a negative view on aviation, because they knew nothing. My dad bought a rans cyote in 1989 and took off from the road, I was hooked ever since as a little boy.
