A little update, still working on my piet, a little slower now that the weather is good and the days are longer I'm spending more time flying than building, have completed a few more ribs, 5 more to go

Sorry for the lack of updates, work has slowed down on the project though still going, rib 20 is done two more to go. I didn't figure I'd get much progress in the summer this is more of a bad weather and winter project. After the ribs are done I plan to work on the tail feathers next.

Say, I know it's none of my business, but if you coat the ribs and stringers, etc. with Quickrete, I think you will end up over weight.

Hey,
Looking good. Glad you got the pictures turned. My old neck was getting strained, LOL. Have you got a picture of a finished bird? Don't remember if I have ever seen one.
Thanks, Bob

Hey Wingnut;
Roger Mann, ok now I remember. Good looking little plane. It will fly good too. I have a friend building the Fiesler Storch replica. Good size plane. he has a Continental 65  engine on it.  I love the parasol type wing and open cockpit. Has always been my favorite. Looks like you are doing a good job too. Keep going. It seems like a daunting task, but it will be worth the effort when the wheels lift off for the first time.

gotten a little more done, I took the second side of the fuselage out of the jig and pulled the jig blocks up to ready the table for the fin and rudder, drew the parts out and have the outline of the rudder cut and put in a jig.

I do have a question, would it be better to glue the rudder together then route the edges so they are round or route the sticks before glueing?

A friend of mine has an Ultra Piet hanging in his garage that he wants to sell "real bad" (meaning cheap).  The plane was built by a craftsman and it looks like a piece of fine furniture.  You can see the story here: http://www.questiongravity.com/piet/pietproj.htm

The plane was crashed with only minor damage and has been rebuilt: http://www.questiongravity.com/piet/index.htm

My tail feathers are almost done, and am thinking should be varnished now rather than later, any brands that work well or just go to menards and get some minwax?

Managing to sneak off for a little bit here and there to make some progress,
have the plywood cover on 3 of the 4 ribs that get covered and nearly all of my tail fins gusseted, just the second side of my horizontal stab. to go

I cut out the plywood to cover one side of the fuselage today, then went to pick up some bricks to use to put pressure on the side for gluing, hopefully will be mixing up a big batch of T-88 tomorrow.

One gallon plastic water jugs work fairly well also or bleach jugs. I water weighs about seven pounds per gallon. Not as heavy as bricks for sure.

I squared up a jig and started to fit the two sides of my fuselage together, The shop was a little cold even with heat to mix up t-88, so made sure it fit and would be square and left it in clamps for now.

it is getting exciting that now with a little imagination it's starting to look like an airplane
