Kansas is in a multi-year drought that hasn't been this severe since the '40's.
Crops are only yielding 25% of normal, grazing land has dried up, water table is down, stock is being sold early. It is tough to be a farmer. The Federal Government has just announced a multi-billion dollar aid package to help farmers get past foreclosures, bank payments, etc.
Typically the drought has been in western Kansas, but it is now fully engulfed in South East Kansas too. We are at the highest level, that being EXCEPTIONAL. Homeowner's lawns are parched, we have lost two fir trees, the garden is a fizzle, and cracks are opening up in the ground big enough to stick your hand into.
Pray for rain, these photos will give you an idea of what the land looks like from the air. Photos were taken about 20 miles South of Wichita, Kansas. Photo file titles are representative of the image.
