I have a fuel flow instrument on my 503 instead of a fuel gauge which works very well for me. I noticed on my last 2 flights that at cruise my fuel rate at 5800 rpm is 3.7 gph but if I do a shallow climb without changing the throttle the rpm drops around 200 rpm as expected but the fuel rate increases to 4.2 gph. I have determined that Rotax tunes the exhaust to 6800 rpm for best efficiency. That’s good to know.

Did you really mean to say 6800 rpm, that is redline. I fly my 503 at 5800.

I just got my 503 minimax airborne. Flew an hour cruising at around 5500. Burned about 3.5gallons. Very impressed with that.
