The last certified plane I flew was a Flight Design CTLS (very fun little plane). I use my A&P cert to tinker with other-peoples' planes (rather than work on my own project...)

I have read and studied the relevant portions of the US Title 14 § 61.309 and 311 (Sport Pilot knowledge and experience), but learned to fly following Henri Mignet's recommendations-- minus his infatuation with instrumentation. I am totally in favor of acquiring relevant knowledge, but for some actually having certificates and being under a bureaucratic legal authority is detrimental.
