Hi everyone, after seeing some excellent builds and workmanship on this forum it got me motivated to go ahead and order a fin & rudder kit from Team for the V-max back in June. It certainly won't be a fast paced build but after slowly progressing I have come across my first question, the Anchor Nuts to be screwed and epoxied onto the bottom RS-10 member of the fin, is T- 88 a suitable epoxy to use to secure the anchor nut to wood?
Thanks in advance

Read this old post, I think it's a better alternative!!

Note: You will need order bolts a little longer to make up for the extra thickness of the washer. And since you are ordering new bolts, might as well get the drilled head version and safety wire them together to prevent them from loosening!

Good luck on your build!

In this particular case I would think the epoxy is more a bedding to keep the metal out of contact with the wood.  I also inject a little epoxy into the holes drilled for the screws.  Though it wouldn't make any difference in this case, it does increase the screw's resistance to being pulled out.

Thanks Scott and Tom for your tips. I added a s/steel washer with screws epoxied in.

Pilot holes drilled in the fin spar and hinges today, will pilot drill gussets one side at a time once glued in place. Playing cards were clamped between the hinge and spar to obtain the 1/32 spacing required as shown on the plans.

After approx 3 months and 30 hours of build time the fin and rudder components have been cut, sized and shaped. Once bench and components cleared of dust gluing can begin.
