I have built a number of high power strobes for experimental aircraft over the years. It is a simple project. At one time a local Radio Shack would carry all of the parts: Strobe tube 6 volt to 120 volt transformer 3055 transistor trigger coil strobe tube NE2 neon bulb Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) Large electrolytic capacitor (typically 300mfd at 500 volts) some resistors based on other component values. Total less than $20.00 You can get clever and build sequential strobes with not much more effort.
Voila, a very bright strobe. There are probably a lot of circuits out on the net. Trick is finding the parts without spending more on shipping than parts. But it is fun to do, potentially dangerous, and useful, everything that appeals to a pilot. What more could you want? Danger, fun, useful, inexpensive? Move up the evolutionary ladder from Pilot to Builder Pilot to Avionics Genius Builder Pilot. How many A380 Pilots can build their own strobe. Joe |
