December 30 & 31 2022 brought a blessing for us light plane pilots. Wind was less than 10 MPH both days and the temperature hovered around 55 degrees! Amazing, only one week ago we had temperatures in the mid-teens, 50 MPH winds, and snow blizzard warnings.
Kansas is an interesting State to live in, if you're patient, flyable weather will be forthcoming. So, as the saying goes, "the best time to fly is anytime you can." With that, I flew both days for about 3/4 of an hour each day. However, there is wind chill to factor in which eventually causes my biological Stick Shaker to indicate it is time to land.
The Saturday flight brings my TTAF to just 3 hours shy of 1200 hours. Chris Duncan also got in a flight, we passed each other in the pattern as I was about to land. Fifty-five degrees is close to my minimum tolerable temperature; the warmest I am going to be is when I get out of my truck. This flight was to Lake Wilmont and return, flying at 1000' AGL. I landed shortly before sunset which allowed time to refuel before tucking my AirBike back in the hangar.
