Oh what a beautiful evening to go flying! Winds less than 10 MPH and 20 degrees off the runway, temperature in the mid-70's and a cloudless sky (no bumps)!
After weeks of "monsoon" rains and wind in Kansas we had a two-day reprieve. On the hope that the runway had drained, I drove my motorcycle to the hangar to check it out and if the field was soft, I would at least run the engine.
Behold, the runway was usable! Before flying I mowed the "hayfield" in front of the hangar then did a pre-flight followed by one-hour of air time. The objective was to leave Udall, head north 15 miles or so and photograph a friend's house. The low sun cast long shadows and improved contrast. The wheat fields were nearly ripe and the Broam hay fields were still growing awaiting the first cutting.
Next week's prediction is for five days of rain, go fly whenever you can! Enjoy the photos, imagine the aroma, engine noise, and vibration. Both were apparent although at different altitudes on the AirBike or the Honda 650 motorcycle.
