Bonding the aileron nose skin to aileron spar caps, I had placed the staples on the center line of the spar caps, seemed like a logical place to put 'em right. Well after the epoxy dried (OK cured, dont pick on me), had realized I had a lousy glue joint as the skin was not held down tight to the caps aft of the staples (towards the edge of the skin/panel). Yeah a picture would be helpful but dont have any. Lot of work to cut it off, clean up the epoxy and fit up new ones, trust me. When I did it the second time I placed the staples near the aft edge of the caps and worked awesome-ly. I think the manual says "no need to soak the aileron skins as they bend easily"? I found it much easier to do them with a soak and dry in a jig. Not that they are tough to bend but rather they are easier to HANDLE if they are formed. Think semi-rigid C-shaped part vs, limp noodle all whilst coated with epoxy. |
