How does the upper wing spar brackets pass through the inside rib that is beefed up with plywood? Maybe I am having a brainfart moment! I can't figure how this will work without cutting into the reinforced rib.

I found these picture's from a builder on the Legal Eagle forum. I think these pic's will give some idea. Dick
You need to make a mod to both root rib and the the one next to it. A cut out needs to be made for these 2 ribs in both wings ( 4 ribs total ) so that the wing-attach straps and the 1/8 ply gusset on front and rear spar can pass through. ( I too had to make this mod as the rib set in the project I purchased did not have these cut-outs.)
But it is doable. I used a small rotary cutter for making the slots in root rib which was already glued to the 1/8 ply without the slots. Some pics below:
