Since the Rotax 447 is out of production and difficult to find, has anyone installed a Hirth 2702 in their miniMax? What modifications did it take? I don't see anything in the 1500R plans for a Hirth modification.

Thanks!

I just installed one on a Hi-Max. I started the build as a 1100, but converted to Hi-Max mid build. Front of firewall was cut off, and we built an engine mount.

Did you mount it inverted? I'd be interested in seeing pics of the installation if you have them to post.

Thanks!

That is how I did mine with a flat firewall, I think it was the last one before yours done that way..  I ended up getting rid of the aluminum mount I made in favor of a 4130 steel mount like a normal aircraft engine.  I will post a few pictures when I can. 2702 is a good engine.  My Hi-max is longer and wider than stock but its a good setup with the flat firewall.

Here are just a couple. If you want to see specifics, let me know and I'll get some better shots.

Hi Pixley, Thanks for posting the pictures.  I just bought a HiMax project, and plan to install the 2702. Haven't picked the plane up yet, but already thinking about how to design the engine mount & cowling installation! Did you buy or build the cowling? Thanks.

Just realized that the cowling looked familiar.  Is it the Eros cowling from Team?

It is! Good eye!

How do you plan on making the mount?

Thanks for posting the pics! I'm getting ready to start on a 1500, but with Rotax having discontinued most of their line and 447's getting harder to find, the Hirth 2702 is looking like a good option. Also considering a Verner 3 but still have some time before I get to assembling the fuse. Good to know a TEAM Max cowl can fit with the Hirth installation. Would prefer not having to make my own cowl (and don't like the mounts with half the engine sticking up out of one).

Not sure about designing the engine mount yet. I’m picking up the project this Saturday. It will be awhile before I buy the engine, so I’ll have time to ponder!

What's the recommended drive reduction for a Hirth 2702 with G50 gearbox?

Thank goodness I won't be the only one using a Hirth 2702 for a Max.

I like the install! Where is the muffler going?

I see some scales there... what's the weight at this point?
